Heads up: North Iowa is under an extreme heat warning heading into the trip, with heat index values well above 100° possible into the holiday weekend. There's also a slight risk of severe thunderstorms Wednesday afternoon/evening and Thursday night. Plan pool and shaded downtime during peak afternoon heat, keep water on hand, and keep an eye on the sky for storms early in the trip. Forecast will shift as the week gets closer — worth a re-check the morning you leave.

The Plan

  • Optional: drive to Clear Lake's Independence Day celebration & fireworks over the lake (~15 min away)

Pack up & head out

  • Last easy breakfast at camp
  • Break down sites, empty tanks at the dump station before you go
